Adventures in Tarot Reading

Tarot Blog Hop 37

Adventures in Tarot Reading

It's that time again, the wheel turns and next thing you know, society has been forced to give pause, we're saving lives by staying in and amongst the chaos of this ever evolving new ways to be, its time for the Tarot Blog Hop....

It is perhaps one of the strangest turns of the wheel because, I am this months wrangler, and yes, you did read that one right, and yes I did wrangle last turn of the wheel as well, continuity is a good thing (well I'm telling myself that so I don't start rocking back and forth too soon).

Let's do some of the civil pleasantries; the Master List is like a directory page, if you get turned around or lost, that's your go to place in order to get your baring. It's the centred link at the top or bottom of the page. It's also the place to get the details of the theme, but let me give you a kind of cliff notes version here as well.

Staying with the Fables and Fortunes theme, let’s visit the lands of the Fae and Faeries. Beltane/Beltaine or Mid-Spring for some is the start of Summer, but it is also a time of potency...

Tarot, much like Life, endures... It has seen wars, crusades, dark ages and the odd age of aquarius as well. Now here in 2020, it see us through these interesting times; Beltane represents fertility, sexuality, the rebirth of maiden and many other Fae related attributes, but at the core is tradition and ritual.

I’d like you to explore one or all of these options:

  • Whether you have a ritual for working with your deck(s)
  • Are you superstitious when it comes to letting others touch your deck
  • If you work with clients do you have a routine/ritual prior to a reading
  • Do you read for yourself / the world, if not would you ever seek guidance from them

As is the way with the muses and the Fae generally, if you feel drawn or inspired to head off on your own journey, then please do go for it, as that is what makes these hops fun.

It is quite a strange way of life at the moment, so in many ways I find myself giving pause to reflect. Which, for this blog hop isn't a bad thing, as I was trying to decide on the topic, I hit upon staying with the theme of traditions, rituals, stories and legends surrounding the cards.

Through the last hop, I told or recounted the Story of the Tarot, it was fun to do, as I am not sure how many actually know that the story is a way of helping to remember the order of the cards and also partially a way of learning the meanings albeit loosely.

What is also interesting, is that the story changes as the knowledge and experience of Tarot grows, so you add in your own knowledge as well as what is already established, and in doing so teach a little or pass along a little bit of yourself as well.

Which, brings me into the direction that this entry for the Tarot Blog Hop is heading. Through recounting the Tale of the Tarot, it got me thinking about the first time I had to read for a group. Now I was maybe 18 possibly 20 at the time, so a real newbie, wet behind the ears and believing that my 2 going on 3 years of hard learning, and 6 possibly a bit more of 'playing' about if you could call it that meant I could handle anything...

Imagine if you will, a crowded but small room of about 30+ people, all strangers to me and my 'guide' for the night a seasoned pro to this kind of thing. She shows me to the room, points me to the front and says to me, "Just pop your card into the projector, it'll show up and then you just do what you do"

Okay, so let's recap; a room full of 30+ strangers, a projector, a set of rider waite and me...

It was around about this point, that I realised, I was completely and utterly out of my depth. Here were, 30+ strangers all waiting for me, little ol' end of his teenage and into his early adult years me, to pull some kind of magic, amaze-balls insights out of this rider waite deck of cards.

I started simple, a one card spread using the major cards only. However, credit where it is/was due, that had been the suggestion and shoving in the deep end tutorial that my 'guide' for the evening had suggested as she walked / threw me down the central channel of chairs as folks were getting seated.

This actually just keeps getting better, and better by the way; as not only am I the newbie, wet behind the years rookie, finding that all this confidence is draining out of me faster than a dodgy curry the night before; but there is a guy in the audience, larger than life in the physical sense, with a diva attitude to rival the best drag and drama queen, already waiting to unleash his inner critic and diva, and how did I know this at the time, well I smelt the stink-eye before I heard it.

girlsaskguys.com
The first card out of the deck was The Fool, a card that in hindsight really summed up his attitude. Now I gave my honest and wet behind the ears reading, I will also point out that tact, and me - well, put it this way, I don't have any when it comes to working with the cards.

So for a moment, just use your imagination a little here, as I point out that I said something along the lines of "Why do you have a tendency to act out?" or something along those lines. Yeah, already we're dealing with a diva like personality, and I have just tossed a lit match into a room filled with hot air and gas.

Oh, you guessed it; first night on the job and me without a filter, discovers the wonderful world of the heckler. Now, at the time I didn't know this little tit-bit, but as it turns out, I could have killed him ... with kindness I'd like to add ... the same thing would have happened, the guy was a known heckler, turns out he was a rite of passage, because to survive him, was to make it in that world of platform tarot readings.

At the time I didn't know that, so I kept trying to appease, make amends and fulfill the connection. Whereas, as I learnt later on, you're not going to be able to help or appease everyone, there is always going to be someone that won't be happy with what you tell them, and it's nothing to do with you, it is purely coming from them.

How To Do the Single Card Reading

Working with a Single Card Reading, is a brilliant beginners tool, but it is also ideal when you have a larger group. It can be used as a warm-up or as a way of gaining a bit of insight, typically I find that I use it more when cards fall out of the deck and catch my attention.

There are two methods that can be used with the single card reading. Let's take a look at them both just now.

Method 1: A Card That Has Fallen

The idea behind this method is that you're including the fallen card(s) in the reading. Usually when cards fall, they do so for a reason. Not everyone or every reader will take them into consideration during a personal (self) or 1-2-1 (client) reading, many will discard them.

However, something to consider; regardless if you follow the trans-personal psychology approach to Tarot or a more holistic spiritual approach, where in the first instance, it is coming from the psyche of the client/ourselves, and in the second instance, its divine guidance that is directing the personal or client (1-2-1) reading.

The consideration to make is that perhaps the fallen cards, contain additional or relevant information to the reading, that is being called into attention of you both.

Directions for Working with this Method

  • Shuffle the deck as you would normally.
  • Draw any fallen card(s) to the side.
  • Once the client has picked their cards, set the spread you are going to use.
  • Take the fallen card(s) and either read them before or after, depending on what feels right at the time.

It may seem like a very simple thing to do, but it will depend on what spread you are using for the main reading, it is a little different if you main reading is going to be the single card on its own, so let's take a look at that style and method just now.

Method 2: The Single Card Reading

This method is very simple, and straightforward to work with, it can produce some very accurate information, depending on your deck, knowledge base and time that you have allocated for the readings.

It can be a bit of a showman's reading, depending on the circumstances that you are working in. A prime example of the showman style is much like the tale I told you above, very flashy, if you have a charismatic persona or stage presence - (none of which I actually have btw).

The consideration to make with this one is, that it is perhaps best to use if you are pushed for time, the best example of this is a private party or large crowd demonstration. You can cover more people and not feel as if you are short changing anyone at the same time.

Directions for Working with this Method

  • First split the cards into their major and minor decks.
  • Discard the minor deck and focus on the major 22 cards.
  • Now, give those cards a decent shuffle.
  • Next, discard the first one as the fool, you can come back to it later if needs be.
  • Ask your client to decide on a number between 1 & 21.
  • Count out that number and turn the card over.
  • Begin the reading, and if you need a bit of clarity, consult your discarded fool, as sometimes it reveals a secret or two.

Well I hope that you have enjoyed this jaunt from my blogger, you'll find another entry from me on my Sacred Healing Blog a little further down the chain, so I look forward to meeting you there, when you find it.

In the meantime, do give my neighbours a visit and if you are able do leave a comment, but please don't worry if it's not possible, I have a terrible time trying to do it on this platform.

Reiki Blog Hop - The Last Published Post

Reiki Blog Hop - Last Published Post

I didn't half set myself up with this one, the Journey of Reiki is perhaps one of the biggest pieces that I have ever touched upon in my entire time of doing the blog hop, and even though this was originally typed up post January blog hop, it will still be just as relevant by the time March arrives. However before I get into this, let's do some of the civil pleasantries; not everyone will have started or even read the Master List page, so let me give you a kind of cliff notes version, and if you are curious, why not go have a read of the Master List, as it sets everything up very nicely for this month.

The theme for this month is the Journey of Reiki, it is my belief that we enter into a consensual relationship with Reiki, for me I believe that it is a form of living energy and that the attunement process is a bit like a marriage ceremony in that we willingly allow that energy to work with us and through us, just as we work with it and through it. The journey then starts to unfold in whatever way it is meant to.   Each person, be they a master, practitioner or a student taking their first steps has this journey and it is my sense of things that Masters have an ongoing journey because they are teaching students to connect and what that means for them, so in essence they are supporting the process of attunement and learning not only for someone but for themselves as well.

The master list is the link in the chain of how each blog writer discusses this theme from the experiences of their own ongoing journey. Where you are at the moment is at the start or end of the chain depending on which way you have come.

As I said at the start, this has been a huge one for me; I came into awareness of it during my own process to do with betrayal of trust concerning the master/student relationship and the respect and honouring of the friendship that developed from that place. The dynamic gave the appearance of being mutual, where I was no longer just a student but I had entered into the teacher/facilitation role.

However this began to shift as soon as I began enquiring about the Masters, it felt like there was some hugely guarded sacred rite of initiation that I needed to pass before it would acceptable for me to even create the manual or teach/hold space for the Masters; now without feeding this or giving it drama, it is possible to assume from all that I have said that this was to do with power, status and control.

What is interesting and I am exploring here is the journey reiki took me; it literally took the shaky foundations of this perceived relationship/friendship and gave them a tap, only for the entire structure down to its foundations to crumble and become debris with no hope of ever rebuilding it, so all it services now is a talking point and instructional lesson aid for future teachers of this particular Reiki practise.

My journey didn't end there, in fact it triggered a massive shift; and brought to the surface some stuff that while unexpected was welcomed in the sense that it was time for it to go; what I have discovered is that Reiki is taking me down a new and somewhat uncharted road, instead of now just being a practise; it's a way of life, and in that I am being shown new ways to work.

At first I was like this is not Reiki, this is anything but Reiki and then this weekend I stopped blocking myself. This is what Reiki evolves into when you stop dividing and conquering. Okay so I realise that at this moment, I am most likely starting to loose some of you with this, so let me break this down just a little.   If you haven't hopped with me before or even if you have it doesn't do any harm for me to share, as long as you are open to it, a little piece of my Reiki background and journey.

I started with Usui Reiki, it was my dad pushing me from the higher side of life; that opened or rather reopened a door that had been firmly shut.   Within about a year give or take, I have completed through to my Masters Certificate, but I didn't feel as if there had been completion and so I did it again with my Original Master, (in total I have about four or five). It was the right thing to do because it opened a door to learning for both of us (another entry for another hop). I then went on to do my Kundalini Reiki, but included with that were Etheric, Gold and further Boosters to the Kundalini. Then I went through Karuna, Shamballa MDH and finally (until recently) Angelic Reiki, which I took through to Teacher level (I prefer Facilitator but again, another entry for another hop).

Recently I decided to do some Continued Personal Development and did a couple of refresher courses online through Udemy for Reiki. These were good because it was showing me how it is possible to discuss and perhaps do a bit of teaching online, which always seems to get the backup with some but if it works why decry it? May not be for everyone but surely in Reiki anything is possible right?

Okay so my sense and feeling with regards to Reiki has been that there is coming a point now where no matter the name, no matter the master, and no matter how the attunements are entered into, this sentient reiki energy that has entered into a consensual symbiotic relationship with us no longer has titles, designations, it doesn't require them. It's like thought, we don't label our thoughts, or have to address the internal desire that says "It's time to Pee" so why do we do it with Reiki?

My sense of awareness and as I feel my way through this is suggesting that this need to label and give energy is hierarchical place (meaning Usui Reiki is lower on the scale than Angelic Reiki or Kundalini Reiki doesn't work or it's not Reiki) is about human amoris and the need for something to be superior even when it isn't.

The journey of reiki itself isn't really shrouded in that much mystery; Usui Reiki in reality really only has second or third hand accounts of how it is remembered; the reality is that Usui was a very private man, he was given the title Sensei only because he was revered and honoured by those around him.

Kundalini, Karuna and Shamballa were all created, inspired processes by humans who were no more godly that the rest of us on our very good days. The fact is they worked and they helped to shift or created a process for healing. Angelic Reiki, based on Shamballa and Usui Reiki, has intuitive and inspired writings that allows us to understand how to develop a personal connection to the Angelic energies (however you understand them); many students, masters and teacher came together and helped the originator of the system to create the now simplistic way of how the attunements are written today and facilitated.

However mythical the system appears, the fundamental realities were that the founder and originator of Angelic Reiki, simply wrote things down on paper, typed up other things and basically handed these out to the students. It was a student of his that finally gathered all of it up and said here use this as your manual and is there anything you need to add to it?   Reiki is the essence of being human, a gift from source to bring us back in true alignment with our own sovereign selves, and that is basically just scratching the surface. This is what Reiki is teaching me, this is uncharted road; it is stripping out all the bull, all the shitty human ego mythos that has gotten in the way.

It is taking back our own power and it is telling those who would try to invade, undermine or anything else just to fuck off! When there is ever doubt as to how far I have come, or if I find myself lost, I look at the journeys I have seen others who have a connection to Reiki take, some its taken them to a place where they'll move to a new country eventually. For others they are coming into their own, and taking ownership of what that means.

It has opened hearts, minds and souls to their fullest potential, and it has helped others to become bad ass shamanic practitioners. Reiki is truly amazing, its unassuming, living energy that works to bring us into who we are meant to be.

Everything You Want to Know about Blog Hopping

Welcome to The World of the Blog Hop, a place where you are challenged to use your skills as a blogger and writer to promote your knowledge on a given subject... but mainly its about having fun as flexing those grey cells!   If you have found your way here via The Tarot Blog Hop Group or  The Reiki Blog Hop Group and haven't a clue what is going on, well that is absolutely fine! It takes a little bit of time to get used to not knowing what this is all about! It’s why such things as this FAQ are created.

So take a look through this and if there is anything your still not exactly sure of, why not comments here on the page or on the Group itself, you never know the very thing you ask could wind up in the revision and edits that this document will go through.

  Jay :-)

What is a Blog Hop?

Think of a Blog hop like a writer's circle or A Round Robin, where the collected group of writers or bloggers all write/blog on the same question/topic and link to the blogger before them and the blogger after them to create a Circle or Train.

How can I join?  You need an active blog, or you need to set one up.

Do I have to follow a special format?  YES! There are four things that make up a blog hop.

ONE: Take a look at the top and bottom of this page, the here are similar to the ones on your post for any Blog Hop. Except those links are titled PREVIOUS BLOG | MASTER LIST | NEXT BLOG

TWO: Your post MUST have something to do with the group topic or group question. Depending on how you've arrived here, all the topics in the group are either on Tarot or about Reiki.

THREE: Include the topic suggestion in the intro to your post. Take a look at this example here and you'll see what I mean.

FOUR: This format will help people navigate the Blogs easily and also keeps things simple as well. Re-visit the example above again, try visiting the previous or next post and see what I mean. Try visiting from this link Here.

What is the next topic?  That will be discussed on the group here on Facebook or determined by the wrangler.

What is A Wrangler and How do I become one?

The Wrangler is like the organiser of the Blop hop, they set the topic, the date and time. You can volunteer to wrangle after you have written for a few of the topics, let one of the group admins know your interested in wrangling.

When do we post?(see how to post date/schedule a blog post below)

The time and date varies and is usually set by the Wranger. Check the Pinned Post to find out what it is currently. Then, determine what the time will be in UTC, go to http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/. Here’s a handy link to help you convert to the right time for where you are in the world. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

EXAMPLE: It is 7am in Honolulu when it is 6pm in London, England PLEASE ASK FOR HELP IF YOU AREN’T SURE OF THE TIME. (I'm Chronologically Impaired, so it's not wise to ask me...)

What should I write about? Anything that involves the topic.

How do I link someone's blog to mine? If you need help with HTML coding, http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_intro.asp is an excellent site.

I don't have a blog but I want to start one. Where do I go?

Some of the ones below are the best for setting up a free blog.

Typepad: http://www.typepad.com
Wordpress: http://www.wordpress.com
Blogger: http://www.blogger.com

Join in with the current hop or next one depending on when you've signed up!

How to use Postdate?

Blogger: Google Help: Blogger Support
Typepad: Typepad Support: See Default Publishing Status
Wordpress: Wordpress Support: Schedule A Post

How do I postdate if none of those work for me?

Typically most of the Sane Hoppers set an alarm, the rest of us don't sleep or we make sure the time is set at a semi-sane hour... usually...

When can I announce my blog?

It is suggested that you wait at least a few hours, depending on how many take part in a Hop, there is normally a period where the wrangler ends up demented while we go through the hour of mad postings, which typically consist of "Your link doesn't work" and "Why does your link show a post from 2016" or other fun things like "Why does blogger not let me comment?"

Can I link to this page from my blog?

The FAQ Page you are reading right now is visible to anyone and can be used to explain a Blog hop; you can link to it using:

https://1331jay.blogspot.com/2018/10/everything-you-want-to-know-about-blog.html

How do I add to this FAQ?

You can ask for additional FAQ's to be added through the Facebook group or contact me via My Site

Jay's Blog Archive

Although I have my main site [Visit Me Here] I have encountered times when it hasn't been possible to update, whether it is computer issues, or my service provider working on the servers, I decided (well more stumbled) on to the facility via Google.

Therefore I have decided to create a back of the main blog posts for the two blog hops that I am involved with on Facebook. This means that I have an alternative link should anything happen at the time of either blog, and it is also a condensed jumping on point as well.

My First Experience [Reiki Blog Hop]

My First Reiki Experience

Introduction Welcome to the blog, I thought I would kick it off by explaining about how I started in Reiki, it's part of a joint project known as the Reiki Blog Hop. If you aren't familiar with this idea then let me quickly explain, a blog hop or a bloggers circle is where a group of like-minded bloggers join up and link in a random/shuffled fashion to other blogs on the same interest. The theme/topic is decided and then we all write something on it and then share the link/permalink and you the reader can learn or read a different perspective on the chosen theme.

Regardless of how you have come to this blog, I am glad that you are here. My name is Jay and well as you'll read in the follow entry my continuing journey with Reiki is... well its not exactly that simple as I have more that just the one first when it comes to my experience, so let's start at the very beginning which is eight years ago...

Summer 2008 (8 years Ago)...

The journey actually began as a throw away line in a conversation with a friend, along side my Reiki work, I am also a platform/trance medium (and healer as it turns out); through providence and circumstances I became part of a group along with three others that met at my dear friends house every fortnight in down at the border of Scotland, my other dear friend was at that time our mentor/teacher and she spoke of a hands on healing system called Reiki, and although she explained how it was a hands on healing system and that it was very interesting and came from Japan/Asia we never really spoke of it again until something like four years later.

December 2012 (4 years later)...

A great deal changed in the fours years between the summer of 2008 and the winter of 2012, one of the most significant and perhaps life changing events was the passing of my father; it completely changed the way in which I actually looked at the world. I could see so much uncaring and lack of actual consideration or even manners; no one actually cared who you were or what you had to say unless you were of some benefit to them. Now I realise that you are perhaps wondering where this is going and what this has to do with Reiki, well it has EVERYTHING to do with it. There were until this moment only two pivotal moments that changed my direction in life and this one became the third.

It was actually around about this time of the evening (23:21 GMT) around the middle of December 2012, I wasn't doing that much on the PC and suddenly the conversation from four years ago came into my head. I sensed that it was important and it wasn't from within my own head but a prompt from on high, and also from a very specific person as well, yes! that is right, Dad. So I began hunting and trawling through sites, learning all that I could, which in this internet age meant very little, however I kept on falling back to a friend of mines site; a small advert for a Reiki healer kept attracting my attention and so I noted down the number and left it at that.

It wasn't really until the January of 2013 that I investigated the whole thing further and went to visit the Reiki healer. It turns out that we had the mutual friend in common and after a bit of conversation, I was asked to relax and get settled on the bed. Now at this point I really had no clue about Reiki, what it was or what to expect from it other than it was a hands on healing. Something I had some knowledge of because of my spirit work and from experiencing it both good and bad through the churches.

2013: My First Reiki Experience...

At first I really hadn't a clue what to expect, but it wasn't long before the world shifted from awareness of the exterior worlds to the interior and then a whole different world altogether. I witness constellations, gaseous swirls and then light before reaching the place that I have come to know as Nirvana (no not the indie-rock group), Buddhists will tell me that it is not possible for someone like me to attain this place without going through many years of their practices and so on... At one time I may have questioned but now; I know it to be Nirvana. However I digress (what again I hear you sigh), within this space between spaces and within the minutiae of the moments I was at complete peace and thats when Dad visited me.

We spoke about his passing, and we spoke about how I was feeling but also we spoke about why I was sent here to this place. In nutshell answer I got was that this was meant, this was where I was meant to be and that I hadn't to take any of the feelings that I had come with back into the world with me, I didn't need them any more. Dad and I also discussed the moment of his passing, where I walked with him to the threshold between this life and the next. I knew it was real as real as the moment I was having with him in this Reiki session, just as it feels real recounting it as part of this blog post.

Dad explained that all of it was real and yes I had walked him to the threshold between this life and the higher side of life. I said that I felt different, changed in many ways but I still felt purposeless and lost, Dad as always just smiled as if he knew that something else was coming but it wasn't his place to tell me or something equally enigmatic. However true enough as the session came to an end, something did happen. The Reiki healer (Karen Harrigan) invited me to take the Reiki Level I course that she was running the next month.

2014: The Year of More Firsts...

As if 2013 wasn't a wyrd enough year, the following year 2014 was just as wyrd; so let me catch you up with the cliff notes of 2013's wyrd. I did my Reiki Level II within a month and half of completing the Level I, which is not unheard of but it was surprising none the less as I cleared a great deal of baggage in that time and then bam! Reiki Level II not only raised my vibration but it set me on course for a rather heady awakening. I sat my Reiki Level III: Master/Teachers at the very end of the year, something was yanking at me to do it and so I listened and followed but then I realised that something was awry when it took me until the December to receive the attunement.

In the April of 2014, I decided to redo the Master/Teacher this time with Karen but not for the reasons you'd think. I was very happy with what I had learnt through doing it via distant learning and the attunement was really special and unique to not only me but my circumstances as well, it really opened my eyes; no the reason I wanted to go back to Karen was there needed to be a completion/end of cycle/back to the start type of ending plus as it turns out I was being the messenger/teacher again.

This happens from time to time, upstairs sends to someone for us both to learn a lesson, for me it was to have faith in my abilities and trust in the ways of spirit and for Karen, well I suppose it was to think outside the box as well as to learn what it is like to work with someone that has a learning disability. On the day of the attunement practical I basically broke down, I had been so confident that I was going to nail it, I had the symbols completely memorised, the sequence rote learn along with the words that I needed for the intention and then suddenly it wasn't there, not forgotten, not unprepared just gone, which can be quite natural for a dyslexic in exam or high stress situations, now you wouldn't think that a reiki training day would be anything of the sort but it was for me.

September 2014: My First Angelic Experience

There is a saying, maybe you've heard it or a variant; 'Everything Happens for A Reason' I had been placed on a path that opened my awareness to Angels, sadly the start of this path was fraught with more than one or two pot-holes along the way and despite everything I have reached a place where I have been able to make my peace with it. By this point I had doing Reiki healings and also some teaching of Usui reiki Level I&II, when I was able to do the Angelic Reiki 1&2 Practitioners. It didn't require me to know very much about Angels or even Reiki as the system was very different to what I had done before.

I have said a few times since then in reflection I didn't know what to make of it and I didn't know where it was going to take me; I only knew that I was supposed to be there on that day. It took me a year to work out that I was meant to be on that course and that it would take me a year before I would really understand why I had been there on that day and why I would end up going back and going further with it.

2015: The Last of the First Experiences

In 2015 after so much change and proof of connection to the Angelic kingdom, I knew that it was time to return, I had a suspicion as to why I needed to do it, during the remaining months of 2014, I completed Kundalini, Karuna and Shamballa MDH Reiki forms; it seemed important to have an understanding of these before I came back to Angelic Reiki because when I returned to refresh myself with the Practitioners Level (Angelic Reiki 1&2), I was fully awakened to not only the echoes of the lives I have had before but to my soul and the connection I have not only to the Akashic Records but also to the Angelic Kingdom as well.

As I worked platform, did my healings and teachings I felt more and more the pull to follow the course that Angelic Reiki had awoken me to and so another first experience for me was to do the Angelic Reiki 3&4: Master Level, this completely awakened me to the fact I am not like everyone else, yes! I am human, and yes I am just as fallible as the next person but there is more to it on the soul level and on the healers level as well. Once I have spoken to the client and made them comfortable, the healing work is done from a much higher source. It is Reiki, but its not only Sensei Usui, it is the Angelic, Shiva, it is Compassionate Action, it is Love and it is also working with someone at their deepest level to remove and replace anything that has blocked them.

Thank You...

If you are new to Reiki, then just know that not everyone has these kinds of experiences; Reiki is sentient energy that works with you for you and through you to help you become the best person you can be, it is an experience that comes from love and no matter if you experience Usui, Angelic or any other form of Reiki, it is all from the same source, and the same place which is Love.

It is my hope that you have enjoyed reading this entry for the Blog hop, and it is also my hope that you may have learnt or at least gained some kind of insight into the journey and experience of reiki that I have personally had. If you should feel drawn to learn more about any of the Reiki forms that I have written about in this entry then do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

May you Find Some Comfort Here [Tarot Blog Hop]

Welcome

Welcome to the Metaphysical Angels Blog; all my blog posts both current and yet to come relate in some way to my work and interests, participating in a Blog hop is one way to do that very thing. If you haven't come across a Blog hop before that's okay because I am going to take a few moments before getting into the topic for this month to explain exactly what a Blog Hop actually is. What is a Blog Hop? Okay so a Blog Hop is a new name for something that has been around for as long as I have written journals, it is basically like a writer's circle or in this case a group of like minded people coming together to give their take on a set subject. You get all kinds of Hops, such as a Reiki Blog Hop, which is another one that I participate in.

A Little Bit about Me...

My name is Jay, I have been working with Tarot for 25 years and for those of you good with figures, yes, yes that's right since I was 16. These days when I reflect back to that time I believe it was always going to be my path to end up working with the Tarot, back then I would never have thought that I would become a collector, historian and Cartomancer. I actually still have my very first deck. I remember vividly how the journey began and it actually ties into the title of this post aptly...

May You find Some Comfort Here...

Picture it May 1991, a skinny bloke, long blonde hair, blue eyes; a total loner sitting up the back of the canteen at his local college annex; shuffling a deck of Mythic Tarot Deck... Yep that's right me! Up until this point I had been studying the cards and had learnt a great deal of their history, done a project on them for the college course and basically had made them my hobby, passion and soon to be life. Let's Look at the Past... Now let me take you back a bit before I explain the relevance of the title, at 16 I had picked up an encyclopedia of the supernatural at the library and reading through it I saw a small excerpt on the Tarot it read...

"Tarot Cards: A method of Divination and Fortune Telling; see IJJ Swiss Tarot for more information."

There was no where locally that I could get these fabled cards, so one weekend with my saved up money I went into the city and eventually found this shop called 'Tam Shepherd's Joke Shop' in the cabinet at the door it had Tarot Cards amongst everything else and so in I went; nervous as hell I have to point out. Tam the owner really gave me a hard stare and asked me if I really was sure I wanted to buy this set. I was so keen and sacred at the same time and well as you will have guessed I bought them, so home I got opened this fabled set and they were in French! That's right, you read me correctly French! I failed my French at High School Level, I could barely string a sentence together in the language and here these cards as mystical and awesome as they were in French...

Well I was crestfallen and kind of felt thwarted, no amount of reading the book was going to get me out of this one. So I read the book for what it was a book and I started just looking at the card for what they were, images. I tried to read them for my Dad one night, I was right in the prediction; just got the timing wrong instead of being in the immediate future the prediction of his death happened 21 year later, (which is one of the reasons I won't read for family or very close friends).

At the time I thought it was an epic fail and I almost gave up but then I watched Live and Let Die, the James Bond film, and right there and then I wanted to be Solitaire. As you can imagine off I went this time to pick up from Tam Shepherd's the 'Tarot of the Witches' now I have to point out that this point I was still quite new to all of this and so I hadn't a clue at that time that there were several decks bought in order to make those scene realistic, (I learnt about that later). So I tried and tried on the dining room table to create that layout and do the readings just as she had done them but again it didn't exactly work out...

Now into the Past/Present By this point in time I have bought my third deck, the Mythic Tarot and it was a fairly normal college day; it was lunch time and I was passing the time by myself with the cards, trying out spreads and really just getting a feel for them. I was a bit surprise and I guess a bit worried by the sudden shadow over my table; as I looked up I was greeted by this quite tall, dark haired lady, she had a tray in her hand and was staring at me. I smiled at her and I was braced for all kinds of "Devil Worshiper, Tarot is Evil and so on" but instead she asked if she could sit down at the table. I agreed and well the conversation went a little like this: "I hope you don't mind me interrupting you, I have been watching you with the cards since the start of lunch and I felt drawn to come over and ask if you would read for me." "Read for you? I don't do this professionally or anything I am only learning at the moment." I replied back with sincere honesty "That is okay, I really don't mind; would you at least try?" To this day I don't know what made me say yes but I did. The reading is still vivid in my head because I used the Celtic cross spread and I alway remember that the first card was filled with a deep sadness and longing. I told her that it typically didn't mean that because The empress was a card of joy, love and laughter; a motherly card in many ways. It was the card that crossed the really struck a cord.

The High Priestess, I stared at her for a good few moments and I then explained that this card represented someone that felt like she wasn't here anymore but also still felt like she was here at the same time. I explained that from this card I got the sense that it was time to consider letting go and moving on; now at the time during the reading I had the impression that perhaps the daughter or someone like a daughter was connected, however that actually wasn't the case. After I completed the reading, the woman looked at me; now I have to admit I was braced for a bawling out, a slap or for her to storm off but instead she thanked me. She explained that her daughter had passed to the higher side of life five years ago on that day, she had been pretty much the way I had described and looked in the card; quiet, smart, intelligent and all the things someone of her age should be and then like that gone... The woman said that her daughter had come through via the reading, had told her that she was fine and that it was time to move on and let go of the sadness that she had been holding on to. She looked at me with very sincere eyes that even to this day make me get a little misty when I reflect and said "Thank you for bringing me comfort and peace." it was then she handed me some money and told me to get myself some lunch.

Could-a, Would-a, Should-a... Maybe?

I often recount this to my students when I mentor them to do with the Tarot, I explain that it isn't about the meanings as they have been attributed by others to the cards, we don't actually know for certain that these meanings we use today are accurate, so I say, use them as a guide; don't follow them verbatim or as a script to stick to. Read the book or manual once or twice, look on line as well for information but at the end of the day, just put to the side. I can image a few horror looks on faces right about now; there is a reason why I say this to my students and also why I am saying it now. The tarot is a reflection of us, our collective unconscious as well as traditional iconic images that we assign meaning to. Every person that we read for brings in their own story and their own energy and the cards tell us what is happening but if we stick to a prescribed format, using someone else's meanings we are only parroting back another person's words. It may work but it also may not work, but listening to that inner instinct and that inner voice, asking what does this card mean to me and mean when I am working with this person's energy what is that telling me. What I realise now that I didn't back then is the woman who sat across from me received a healing from spirit through the Tarot and maybe that is exactly what the Tarot can do, is heal others; it shows us the areas that need focus and can show the potential for change but it also show personal responsibility not just for us but also to the other person as well. We can't make the changes in a person's life happen, they need to do that themselves; all we can do as readers is hand them the map and point out the best places to visit, the rest as always is up to them.

Thanks

Well thank you for your company and I wish you well on your Blop hop travels. If you are interested in having a reading done then please feel free to get in touch and if you are local then we can organise a face to face meeting, however distance isn't really an issue as I am happy to work via email as well.
